Molecular Testing Ushers in a New Era of Rapid Pharyngitis Diagnostics.
Acute pharyngitis, commonly known as a “sore throat,” is an inflammatory condition of the pharynx and/or tonsils that commonly affects both children and adults. While viruses are the most frequent cause, bacterial pathogens - including Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A/B Streptococcus) - can also cause infection.
Rapid PCT-based molecular testing provides highly accurate results in approximately one hour, enabling clinicians to detect pathogen-specific genetic material with greater sensitivity than many conventional rapid tests. This supports faster, more confident diagnosis and timely, appropriate treatment.
